The Golden Retriever
How many words have been written/said about the Golden Retriever?
Surely a great many but I think they're never enough...
What it has been done or are we doing for the Golden Retriever breed?
Surely a lot, too... but not enough.
Now the Golden Retriever in Italy is a trendy breed, this makes me afraid because I know only too well what it could mean...
It means that there are some credible and serious breeders and, at the same time, there are many more litters bred without scruples and meticolousity, without any deep knowledge and without any rules,... several times produced by a backyard breeder without any experience (they think the dog must be mated at least once in his/her life and I never heard such nonsense!), sometimes produced by breeders that are more like animal dealers masked behind a regular licence or affix and talk; they have neither love nor respect for the breed, no knowledge, no education, no competence, no sensitivity,... their attention is only focused on making easy money.
So please, don't forget it...!
Personally, I fell in love with goldens from the first moment I saw one of them.
Four years have passed,... but I made sure I acquired the right knowledge before starting to breed; and even now I think I still have much more to learn.
The Golden Retriever is a versatile dog, sweet, gentle, easy-going and congenial to those people who can be sympathetic and respect his gentleness, his intelligence and extreme sensitivity, his will to please, and his attitude to gratify the owner and everyone around him/her.
I have to smile when someone tells me that dogs are all the same... I think those who claim this, never owned a golden retriever, or if they did, they just kept him/her in the garden or backyard and never bothered to train the dog for more than an hour a week.
Owning a golden retriever means to elect him/her as one’s life's companion, to live with him/her every day, to respect his need to play, his desire to run in the country or in open spaces, to respect his natural instinct to hunt & retrieve, or the instinct for water,... to cuddle him/her whilst reading our newspaper or watching tv and he/she's laying at our feet.
To own a golden retriever means devoting time to him/her in every activity, according to his/her attitudes and peculiarities, and sacrifice our free time, our living spaces and most of all sharing the joy of Life.
Owning a golden retriever means to share our life with him/her as much as possible, because that's what he/she needs.
The Golden Retriever is the family pet par excellence - mind it! – which implies he/she has in himself/herself all of the beauty of the universe we could admire and appreciate only by becoming ourselves a "Golden" by his/her side...
